WordPress Installation Guide

Follow this comprehensive tutorial to install your WordPress themes and plugins without errors.

How to Install a WordPress Theme

  1. Download the theme ZIP file to your computer.

  3. Go to Appearance → Themes.
  4. Click Add New → Upload Theme.
  5. Select the theme ZIP file and click Install Now.

How to Install a WordPress Theme Using FTP

If the theme is too large to upload through the WordPress dashboard, you can install it via FTP.

  1. Extract the theme ZIP file on your computer.
  2. Connect to your website using an FTP client (such as FileZilla).
  3. Navigate to: /wp-content/themes/
  4. Upload the extracted theme folder to the themes directory.
  5. Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
  6. Go to Appearance → Themes.
  7. Locate the uploaded theme and click Activate.

How to Install a WordPress Plugin Manually

Method 1: Upload from WordPress Dashboard

  1. Download the plugin ZIP file.
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New.
  3. Click Upload Plugin.
  4. Choose the ZIP file and click Install Now.
  5. Click Activate Plugin once the installation is complete.

Method 2: Install via FTP

  1. Extract the plugin ZIP file.
  2. Connect to your website using an FTP client.
  3. Navigate to: /wp-content/plugins/
  4. Upload the extracted plugin folder.
  5. Go to Plugins in your WordPress Dashboard.
  6. Find the uploaded plugin and click Activate.

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure you are uploading the correct ZIP package (not the entire downloaded package if it contains documentation, licenses, and other files).
  • If you receive an upload size limit error, raise your PHP memory limit or install the theme/plugin using FTP instead.
  • Make sure the uploaded folder structure is correct (for example, theme-name/style.css directly inside the theme directory).
  • After installation, clear your website and browser cache if changes do not appear immediately.
